FLING REGATTA 2016: FREE IRC & ORC CERTIFICATES (for All New Applications)

FLING REGATTA 2016: FREE IRC & ORC CERTIFICATES (for all new applications)

The Fling Regatta has built a reputation for innovation and raising the standards of race management and sailing on our local offshore racing circuit. This has included bringing out respected International Race Officers, International Judges and international sailors.
This year, the regatta’s initiator and patron, Irvine Laidlaw, has raised the offering even further, by not only bringing out highly respected International Race Officer, Stuart Childerley, but also initiating and enabling a dual scoring trial for entering yachts with a club handicap of 1.000 and above, on World Sailing’s (formerly ISAF) two endorsed measurement rating systems, IRC and ORC.
This will offer our racing fleet the unprecedented opportunity to upgrade, experience and compare arguably the best international rating systems on offer.
To promote inclusiveness, all new applications for IRC certificates are completely free: Irvine Laidlaw has personally offered to pay for 50% of the cost of certification, and RCYC have undertaken to pay 50% of the certification cost up to R10,000, in addition to a free cranage hoist to be weighed.
For those yachts revalidating their IRC certificates, and for those who already have current IRC certificates, there are a couple of additional measurements that are required for ORC, and you will be engaged on these in due course.
All ORC certificates for all yachts will be free for this trial.
Please act swiftly to take advantage of this opportunity, by contacting the sailing office to book your measurement. In order to process the IRC Certificates, you will need to be measured and submit by no later than 15 January, but it would be recommended to get it done well before then. There is a wealth of information about the ORC rating system at
