WARMING THE COCKLES OF THE CLUB’S HEART
The Royal Cape Yacht Club held its Annual Sailing Awards evening on Saturday evening. Members were treated to a warm, welcoming and friendly atmosphere in the club’s main hall, with the fires roaring, Cap Classique flowing, and canapés aplenty to fuel the audience.
Thank you to all the members of our club who nominated sailors for the special awards, and also to 114 yachts that participated in the Club Championship. Congratulations to the top three placed yachts in each division for your commitment and performance in the Club Championship. Thank you also to all the club members who attended the evening. Like the atmosphere, the attire was formal, but not stiff, and it was good to see so many members accompanied by the partners. The fact that so many people stayed on quite late into the evening engaging in cheerful banter and reminiscing about their sailing (et al) is a clear sign of the success of the event. Well done to Toni and your team for putting on a great show.
A special memorial award was made in recognition of the contribution of the late Rob Meek to our club, and this was accepted by Rob’s wife Di, and their two daughters, Claudia and Louise. Rob’s legacy and grace, not to mention his warmth and humour, leaves us all with an excellent example to follow in the future.
Thanks for a successful and happy sailing season.
