Saldanha Raid 2016

Saldanha Bay Raid 2016

Most RCYC Cruisers spent a restful Friday afternoon and evening at Mykonos Marina enjoying the last of the week free mooring

After a great breakfast on Saturday morning , we set sail at +- 11.30am in a 15 knot breeze to North Bay

After each yacht had anchored (many with more than one attempt while listening to the chirping of their fellow cruisers) , RCYC delivered two bottles of wine to each yacht anchored , compliments of the RCYC Cruising committee all in all we had 15 yachts anchored in the bay  which looked spectacular .

Dingies were shared to get all to the beach where SBYC had already set up the lunchtime braais and started the fires

Each boat catered for themselves – Great food and drink , lots of Fun and Laughter was had by all

At about 3.450 pm – after helping to clear up (we only leave footprints)  –  we all sailed back to SBYC in +- 20 knots – great sail – we had decided not to race back –  but in hindsight we should have – because everyone said that they would have won if there had been a start and a finish line – typical cruisers

After showers and sundowners – SBYC once again set up the braais and a lovely evening was had by all – SBYC Bar did a roaring trade and RCYC (as has become a tradition ) “Rang the Bell” a number of times in lieu of having to buy the firewood

SBYC (and a few RCYC traitor cruisers ) took great delight in setting up a scam / candid camera / fake” Arrest” of Alan Haefele by a Police Officer in a genuine Police vehicle – after a few concerned moments ( fearing only because he knows the trouble some of our cruisers can get into )  and after refusing to get in the police van – he realised it was a scam when he saw  that the whole of SBYC were taking photos – the Police Officer burst out laughing , was given a bear hug and joined in the fun

Speeches were made by Gavin of SBYC and Alan of RCYC and fun prizes were handed out

Sunday morning came sooner than we all thought but after swims & showers , breakfasts & brunches , suddenly the weekend SBYC Raid was over – until next year

Special thanks to Gavin Lindhorst (SBYC Cruising Officer) , Andrew Beys  (SBYC Commodore) ,  Trevor Dyer (SBYC President) , Patrick , Brian & Shirley for organizing a great Saldanha Raid and North Bay Cruise in 2016
