SUMMARY:The Volcano Hiding in Plain Sight and the Role of Sailing in Its Discovery by Reyno Scheepers
DESCRIPTION:Discoveries in earth sciences often happen by chance\, and sailing played a surprising role in one of the most violent volcanic eruptions ever evidenced along the South African coastline. \nIn this fascinating talk\, Reyno Scheepers introduces the geology of the Western Cape and reveals the spectacular features of unique volcanic rocks that were misinterpreted for many years. His insights will change the way you see the coastline\, you’ll never sail past these formations again without recalling their true character.

SUMMARY:Saldanha Bay Raid
DESCRIPTION:The Saldanha Bay Raid is one of the highlights of the cruising calendar. Each year\, RCYC members set sail up the West Coast\, enjoying the adventure of the journey as much as the destination. It is a weekend of camaraderie\, seamanship\, and exploration\, with lively stops along the way and shared meals that bring the fleet together. \nThe Raid is not about racing;  it is about the spirit of discovery\, the beauty of the coastline\, and the friendships forged at sea. Whether you are a seasoned cruiser or joining for the first time\, the Saldanha Bay Raid offers a chance to experience sailing at its most relaxed and rewarding. \nIf you cannot join the Flower Cruise\, sail to SBYC and meet the Flower Cruise fleet there. It is the perfect way to be part of the adventure and share in the spirit of the weekend. \nForm: https://forms.gle/ZfXk5ns7qr6aG8hx9

SUMMARY:Harken RRI Race
DESCRIPTION:Harken Round Robben Island Pursuit Race \nThe Round Robben Island Pursuit Race is one of Cape Town’s most iconic sailing traditions. For decades\, sailors have tested themselves against the winds and currents of Table Bay\, with Robben Island as the historic turning mark and Table Mountain as the backdrop. \nThis is a pursuit race\, which means boats start at staggered times based on their ratings. Slower boats go first\, faster boats chase\, and all work toward the same finish line. It is a format that brings the fleet together and makes for a thrilling\, unpredictable finale. First start is at 12h00. \nThis year we are aiming for 70 boats on the start line. Will you be part of it? \nHarken SA is a continued sponsor\, supporting the race with prizes. Prizegiving will be held after the race\, bringing sailors together to celebrate and continue the tradition that makes this event special. \nSign up now and be part of the pursuit. \nForm:  https://forms.gle/8wm6oWmNjX28BzZz9 \nHarken RRI Race 2026 – Entries \nHarken Round Robben Island NoR 2026_V1-PL \nHarken Round Robben Island Sailing Instructions
