South African Sailing Western Cape Keelboat Championship Circuit 2021
Incorporating both an Inshore and an Offshore Championship

- Organising Authority
The Western Cape Keelboat Championship Circuit is organised by South African Sailing Western Cape, in conjunction with the host club for each of the events scheduled in clauses 4.1 and 4.2.
2.1. The rules as defined in the World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing.
2.2. The following rules will also apply:
2.2.1. ORC Rating Systems Rule, read in conjunction with the IMS Rule.
2.2.2 SAMSA safety requirements as described in the NoR for each event.
- Eligibility and Classes
3.1. The championship is open to all boats with a current and valid ORC Club certificate for each event.
3.2. The Inshore Championship Classes are defined as follows:
ORC Club Class Division Length (CDL)
Class A: CDL > over 9.100
Class B: > up to and including CDL 9.100
Class C: Cruising Class – over CDL > 9.100
Class D: Cruising Class > up to and including CDL 9.100
CAPE31 Class: shall constitute a separate class.
3.3. Using the Classes defined in 3.2, the Race Committee of an Inshore event may, at its own discretion, divide the entries as follows:
3.4.1. Five fleets, as defined by the classes in clause 3.2; alternatively
3.4.2 Two fleets, one a combination of Classes A & B and the Cape31 Class, starting together and the other fleet Classes C & D starting together; alternatively
3.4.3 Three fleets, one is a combination of Classes A & B starting together, another is Classes C & D starting together, with the Cape31 Class starting separately; alternatively
3.4.3. One fleet, combining all classes, starting together.
3.5. The Offshore Championship Classes are defined and the fleet splits are the same as in 3.2 above.
3.6. All eligible boats that take part in any of the Inshore events are automatically entered in the Western Cape Keelboat Inshore Championship.
3.7. All eligible boats that take part in any of the Offshore events are automatically entered in the Western Cape Keelboat Offshore Championship.
4.1. Western Cape Keelboat Inshore Championship
Admirals Regatta: 5-7 March 2021, Hout Bay, HBYC.
Sail Cape Town: 27-28 March 2021 Table Bay, RCYC.
Spring Regatta: 25-27 September 2021, False Bay, FBYC.
4.2. Western Cape Keelboat Offshore Championship
Mykonos Offshore Race: 19 February 2021, Table Bay to Saldanha Bay, RCYC.
Double Cape Race: 22-23 May 2021.
Cape Point Challenge: 18 September 2021 Table Bay to Simonstown, possibly leaving Robben Island to port.
Agulhas Race: 1-3 October 2021, Simonstown to Cape Agulhas and back to Simonstown (or a variation of that course).
West Coast Offshore Race: 26-27 November 2021, Table Bay to Saldanha Bay, via Elands Bay, RCYC.
4.3. The Inshore Championship is valid if at least two of the three events are constituted and completed, as per each event’s Notice of Race.
4.4. The Offshore Championship is valid if at least three of the five events are constituted and completed, as per each event’s Notice of Race.
4.5 The dates of the above events are subject to change.
Measurement and rules compliance inspections may be carried out throughout the championship, during, or in preparation for any of the events.
- Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions
Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions for each event in the Inshore and the Offshore Championships will be available from the organising authority for that particular event.
7.1. The Low Point Scoring System of Appendix A4.1 and A9 of the RRS will apply.
7.2. Each boat’s final score for an event is to be carried into the Classes defined in clause 3.2 and ranked. That is the score to be applied towards the championships.
7.3. There will be no series discard allowed for the Inshore Series.
7.4 There will be one event discard for the Offshore Series.
7.5 The overall results of all events, subject to 7.3 and 7.4 to count and shall be combined, provided all events are constituted and completed as per each event’s Notice of Race and subject to the fleet splits referred to above applying.
- Trophies and Prizes
8.1. There will be overall winners for each Class in the Inshore and Offshore Championships.
8.3. Prize giving will take place in conjunction with SAS Western Cape Sailing Awards – venue and date TBC.
- Provincial Colours
Provincial Colours will be awarded:
– to the overall winners in classes A and B and the Cape31 Class of the Western Cape Inshore Circuit and
– the overall winners of classes A and B and the Cape31 Class of the Western Cape Offshore Circuit,
provided a minimum of 10 boats are scored as finishing a race in each class in any two of the inshore events, or three of the offshore events.
