I’m Thando Mntambo, born in KZN and grew up in Cape Town from the age of 2 years.
I got introduced to sailing when I was 7 years old in Simons Town by a group friends who stayed in the same street with me. Then I joined RCYC Academy around 2017. Sailing is the best thing that has occurred to me and one of the best sports I love and enjoy participating in.
While being part of the RCYC Academy I got exposed to many things, places and people. Due to RCYC Academy I got exposed to the maritime environment, whereby I got very curious and started asking questions of about the maritime careers and here I am. I know the career I want to pursue, and I have taken action towards achieving it.
The Covid-19 has impacted me in a very negative way, because it has put a lot of things on hold, including sailing on weekends. Now I can’t afford to pay college fees, because sailing is closed on weekends whereby that’s my income to pay college.
Covid-19 has impacted negatively in many ways, but we as people can stop the spread of Covid-19 if we follow the rules of preventing the spread of Covid-19.
