Welcome to the Royal Cape Yacht Club, set within the Cape Town Port. With views of Table Mountain on the one side and yachts gently swaying in the Marina on the other side, you will search far for a more beautiful and unique setting. 

A wide range of membership options are available, which cater amongst others for avid sailors, for those interested in the social aspects and for those needing a meeting hub for their corporate activities. And the best news? You do not need to own a boat to become a member.

MEMBERSHIP CONTACT DETAILS

MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION INFORMATION

  1. All persons wishing to join the Club must be proposed by an Ordinary or Honorary Life member and seconded by another, both must have been members for at least six months.
  2. Prospective applicants must ensure that they apply for the correct class of membership as detailed within the RCYC Constitution.
  3. Prospective members are to ensure that they are fully conversant with the RCYC Constitution and byelaws prior to application, as any person applying for membership shall be bound by the Constitution, rules and byelaws in force from time to time.
  4. Complete the Application for Membership form and hand or email this to the Membership Secretary by the 7thof each month.
  5. Include two colour identity photographs with your application document. (Email copies are welcome)
  6. Your name and photograph will be placed on the Notice Board for the duration of your scrutiny period after which your application will be subjected to ballot by the General Committee for final acceptance.

All prospective members will be subject to the following Scrutiny periods: 

  1. Ordinary: three months
  2. Family (related to an ordinary existing member): one month
  3. Other class of membership: one month.

Any member having any information which he/she considers relevant to such application should bring this to the attention of the General Committee within the fourteen day period. During the scrutiny period you will be considered a Temporary Member of the RCYC. The Membership Secretary will advise you in writing of your status and a Temporary Membership Card will be issued to you by the Club Office.

On completion of your scrutiny period, the final approval of your full membership shall be vested in the Committee after which you will be balloted and recognised as a full membership of the Club.

No person residing within 15 kilometres of the Club premises shall be eligible as an Honorary, Temporary or Reciprocity Member of the Club except where:

  • Such person holds a public office or is a bona fide candidate for membership or has conferred some special benefit upon the Club: Or
  • By resolution of the Committee such person is allowed the privileges of membership while engaged in any competition.

Members elected to membership during a year will be liable for a pro rata share of the annual subscription as from the first day of the month in which they are elected to membership.

Membership is automatically cycled each year.

  • If berthing a vessel upon RCYC moorings during the scrutiny period, vessel fees will be charged at non-member rates until the successful ballot. Applications for Mooring Rights will only be considered upon successful ballot of your membership application.
  • Please advise the Sailing Department if you are interested in being a crew member on a yacht or if you require any other information regarding racing or cruising activities of the Club.
  • Any craft introduced to the RCYC must have a valid “Certificate of Fitness”.
  • Only those members in possession of a SAS Skippers Certificate (Issued by South African Sailing) are permitted to be in command of a boat being taken out to sea. Please communicate with the Club Secretary or SA Sailing regarding information that you may need with respect to the qualifications required.

A New Members Meet & Greet gathering is held regularly, and you will be notified to remind you to attend.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Members enjoy full use of all Club facilities in and around our property, which are open seven days a week. Every member receives their own personal membership card and they can sign their guests in six times a year.

Members enjoy free access to regular club social events and weekly lucky draws, as well as cruising and racing events. You do not need to own a boat in order to sail, as there are always spaces available on other boats. The Club hosts a variety of social events, which you can access through our weekly newsletter, updated website and social media platforms. Members also receive preferential bookings and rates.

Free parking is available exclusively for members.

A range of world-class venues, resplendent with classic nautical charm, set in a stunning corner of the Cape Town harbour. From intimate birthday and private functions, to large weddings and corporate events, our venues are fully equipped to cater to your every need, with top-notch food and beverage services. Allow us to manage all of your event requirements.  Members qualify for discounted venue hire for their private and corporate events.

Free Wi-Fi is particularly useful during load-shedding – one of the great benefits of being in an operational Port, is that we do not have load-shedding at RCYC. It is a great office space for you to work from and we have different areas/private rooms ideal for holding meetings.

Royal Cape Yacht Club offers some of the best marina facilities in Southern Africa. An 18 ton crane and a 40 ton slipway allow easy access to the hard area, which is serviced by a number of top-class workshops, a chandlery and a laundry. Fully serviced walk-on moorings offer 24 hour security and access control. All within easy reach of the Club’s amenities and the popular V&A Waterfront.
