Peters & May, preferred logistics supplier to the Cape 2 Rio Yacht Race 2023 recently expanded the shipping options for yachts wishing to arrive in Cape Town for the 2 January 2023 start. We encourage you to plan your winter sun of 2022 to coincide with our event. With the start date now less than 23 months away, finalising logistics is an important part of race preparation.
The Organising Committee of C2R2023 continue to work closely with Peters & May to evaluate the best possible loading locations across the globe for sailing teams to consider. This will allow participants to maximise the use of their boats prior to shipping. A service out of the Mediterranean has already been advertised with loading locations of Malta and Palma, following the completion of the 2022 Middle Sea Race. This is anticipated to be a charter service subject to a minimum freight booking requirement.
A regular service is also available out of Northern Europe originating with potential loading locations of Rotterdam, Hamburg, Bremen, Immingham, Antwerp and Lisbon all being possibilities. On this route we are able to secure individual bookings subject to space availability on the applicable vessel. Two to three sailings a month are anticipated, with a transit time of approximately three weeks.
Out of the USA, we foresee a service originating from Galveston Bay, Houston. Entrants wishing to make use of this opportunity would need to ship out by the latest early November 2022. In the past, boats were trucked to the port of loading from across the USA. Runaway, the 2017 Line Honours winner, came to our shores via this service.
