SAILING NEWS

The P flag is now displayed.  The Sailing Office is ready –  are you? By Hilary Ackerman and Kerry Pryde

We are finally returning to sailing after a very long break next Saturday (15 August) and we are certainly looking forward to seeing you back on the water for the  Double Handed Series.  Taking the recent survey into account, we have increased the number of races to two races each afternoon.  The 1st race to start at 12h00 and second race to follow thereafter.  Taking Covid restrictions into account there will no longer be a Skippers Briefing or prize giving after sailing.  All communication will be via the Double Handed WhatsApp Group and Channel 06 with your results published on our social media platforms.  To enter please be sure to email the Sailing Office on saildadmin@rcyc.co.za.

For information on the new Double Handed certificates, this is the link to the Facebook article.

Taking into account the code word for 2020,  Covid – and all the regulations as determined by the Department of Sport and Recreation, the Sailing Committee have created a new event for shorthanded sailing: The Cinque Cup  (22 August).

The criteria for this series are as follows:

  • A maximum of 5 people on board
  • All sailors to be SAS members
  • Social distancing – do not congregate on the marina or deck
  • Sign up for the racing via WhatsApp (0646526316) or email sailadmin@rcyc.co.za
  • Results posted on ALL social media platforms after racing.

The format of the racing is:

  • 2 races per day   – the 1st race starting at 12 noon and then a longer race thereafter.
  • Courses will be announced on the Racing WhatsApp Group

Dates :   22nd August, 5th September 24th of October.

ORC Rating Certificates

ORC Certificate holders should have received renewal emails at the end of June 2020. Please follow the link for the generic renewal notice.

The local annual ORC Club certificate renewal fee is directly linked to the R/€ rate of exchange and moving forward, this renewal fee is subject to change from time to time, since this exchange rate is volatile. However, in recognition of the impact of the lockdown, with no certainty as to when racing will resume, for a limited period of three months only, ORC South Africa is offering a substantially reduced renewal fee of R425, valid to the end of September 2020. This is a 50% discount on current retail price. We are pleased to confirm that we are continuing to offer the introductory special of free certification for first time applications.
