If at the beginning of 2020 someone had said to us, “the next 12 months was going to be a rollercoaster ride” – I am not sure what either of us would have said apart from laugh. From the hype of the Cape 2 Rio 2020 starts, the Fling Regatta, the 30th running of the Mykonos Offshore, the TP52 Series and the Cape31 Invitational Regatta, we were off to a flying start and certainly enjoying the ride. Possibly a little too much. The next thing the buzz word was Covid-19.
Lockdown, found us working from home, altering the calendar, amending budgets, postponing events whilst watching the “numbers climb”, the economy taking a knock and zoom meetings between our teams. All we wanted, was the green light to head out to sea. We knew we were not alone. It was time we used to regroup, refocus and brainstorm.
Bring on the green light, August was the month. We could amend the calendar and get back to doing what we love. Arranging sailing events for you, our members. From the Double Handed, to The Cinque Cup, The Knysna Rally, our Opening Cruise, the Portugal Bay Race, the Twilight Series and the West Coast Offshore Race. We have been busy, but not without the incredible support from our Members and Sponsors alike. This week saw the last Twilight Fun Race for 2020, bringing the “2020 racing season to and end”. Next week we have a Cape 31 Performance Regatta over 3 days, while the Cruisers head to Dassen for the weekend.
From the two of us – thank you for all the support you have shown us both during this rollercoaster ride. We really do appreciate it! We wish you a peaceful festive season spent with your families. We look forward to seeing you all back on the water in January 2021.
