Mandela Day Challenge

Join us this Mandela Day for a meaningful day of impact, community, and purpose at RCYC.
In partnership with Dive Action and the UCT Department of Biological Sciences, we will be undertaking a marina clean-up with an ambitious goal: removing 670kg of waste from our marina. While divers spend 67 minutes beneath the water, members and volunteers are encouraged to dedicate their own 67 minutes above the water, focusing particularly on the Cat Corner / Globe Wall area.
The diving team will be active between 09:00 and 12:00, and all members are invited to assist by collecting surface litter. Please bring your buckets and pool nets and join the effort. Waste will be sorted, logged, and weighed at a central collection point with support from Averda.
In the true spirit of Mandela Day, we are also raising funds for Haven Night Shelter, where R75 provides five nights of accommodation for someone in need.
Our goal is to fund:
- 67 stays, or even better,
- 670 nights of shelter
Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a tangible difference.
The day concludes with the Mandela Challenge Cruise in Table Bay. Be sure to collect your Mandela Challenge Card from the registration desk and set off on a fun-filled cruising adventure taking in the sights of the three lighthouses, along with a variety of entertaining challenges that RCYC cruisers have come to know and enjoy.
Entry Fee: R75 per crew member
All proceeds go towards supporting Haven Night Shelter.
